Anastazya Gardziejowska was born on October 10th, 1894 in Jacowce, Poland. She was one of four children (Tekla, Julia, and Marian) born to Jozef Gardziejowski (born in Klebanowka on September 12, 1890) and Anna Piontko (Piatko). Anastazya left Jacowce in 1913 for the United States.
Tekla Gardziejowska went to Germany where she married and died in 1935. Julia Gardziejowska and Marian Gardziejowski stayed with their parents. Anastayza's mother, Anna Piontko died in 1914, and her father, Jozef Gardziejowski died in 1916. Anastayza married Michael Piontkowicz on November 21st, 1914 in St. Stanislaus Church, Detroit, Michigan. They had four children (Marvin, Ann, Tillie, and Sophie) before divorcing on May 16, 1928. Anastazya died on January 23, 1984 and is buried in Forestlawn Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan.
Times were very bad in those days. Profits from farming were either very low, or there were no profits at all. Many farmsers were starving. Anastayza Gardziejowska was brought to the United States by a relative (probably her mother's brother ... Piatko). Anastayza never forgot her family in Poland ... and sent them letters as long as she was alive. During World War II Anastayza's family was displaced with the rest of the Polish population in Jacowce. They left in 1945 and settled near the western border of Poland ... where they live today. Julia Gardziejowska did not relocate. She married, had one daughter, and died in 1984.
